1 | Fairy shrimp, male, Eubranchipus vernalis. Fairy shrimp are found only in vernal pools or other emphemeral wetlands. Worldwide, there are many species of fairy shrimp. The vernal fairy shrimp is common in vernal pools of eastern North America. The males are distinguished from the females by the shape of the antennae on the head which are modified as claspers for mating.
