intricatis_head.jpg - Fairy shrimp, male,  Eubranchipus intricatus .  In Massachusetts, the intricate fairy shrimp is very uncommon, confirmed from less than 20 locations over the state.  This species can be distinguished from the more common vernal fairy shrimp by an examination of  the head of a male under magnigication.  For  E. intricatus , the antennal appendages are long, tapered, often curled, and may reach to the end of the claspers.
