Preliminary Results ( data should not be cited)
Ponds with maximum surface areas of only 612 m2 (pond 1) and 1455 m2 (pond 2) yielded populations of adults of 1432 and 480 and populations of metamorphs and juveniles of 2083 and 2332 respectively. Pond 1 is located within the 13,817 acre Arcadia Management Area and Pond 2 on private land surrounded on two sides by state roads and 50 acres of upland forest.
By running the Drift Fence Array (DFA) daily for the period from February through November, we are able to assess:
- the total number of individuals of each species using each pond; [figures 1 & 2]
- seasonal and daily chronology at each pond, thereby allowing quantification of seasonal changes in community structure; [figure 3]
- productivity for each species, that is the number of larvae undergoing metamorphosis and therefore leaving the pond [figures 1 & 2].
These figures are only sample and preliminary data and should not be cited without the consent of the authors.
