Playing in the Sands Poster

		Heavy Placer Sands, Rogue Valley, Oregon, USA Gold is still found in the streams of the Rogue River Valley. Much of the current mining is done with small floating dredges which suck the heavy sands from deep pools and run the sands over riffles to isolate the larger nuggets of gold. Smaller sand-sized particles of gold remain in the heavy sands. A gold flake is prominent in the lower right quarter of this image.
