Native amphibians (salamanders and frogs) sold by supply houses for school dissections and experiments are wild caught, not captive raised. Check the catalog for live specimens where it will often state "available in spring months". The animals are caught when they go to their breeding sites and are then shipped off to be preserved and/or sold.
