When you locate a vernal pool, you should make a simple map so that others can locate it in the future. Use a compass to locate your pool by distance and direction from at least two permanent landmarks. Such landmarks might be topographic features (cliffs, rivers, hills, etc.) or manmade structures (utility poles, roads, buildings, towers, etc.).
