The enviornmental cues which signal mole salamanders to migrate are not always clear. Variations in spring rains, fluctuating temperatures and the freezing weather might frequently decive the salamanders. Sometimes salamanders wait too long before migrating to the vernal pool and miss their opportunity to breed.
